UNLIMITED ACCESS TO OVER 400 HISTORIC PLACES
Live and breathe the story of England at royal castles, historic gardens, forts & defences, world-famous prehistoric sites and many others.
We recommend you use Calvert Way for parking, opposite the private car park at the bottom of Castle Hill. Alternatively, there’s street parking in the village. There are also a few accessible spaces outside the visitor centre.
Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds only. Assistance dogs welcome across the site.
There are a number of interesting staged displays hidden on each floor within the keep, and a 3D model of the castle located inside the visitor centre.
There are plenty of grassed areas for games and picnics. Children are welcome to run around and explore. Ball games and kites are permitted.
There is room to play (but not a playground) outside the visitor centre. Ball games and kites are permitted.
A range of family activities are available, including a book box, activity sheets, reconstruction drawings and object handling.
An activity sheet is available for children.
English Heritage welcomes amateur photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures of your visit with us on social media.
If you are looking to use one of our sites for commercial, corporate or professional photography or as a filming location, please contact our filming team as soon as possible to check availability and acquire the relevant permissions and paperwork.
Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
