As a thank you to our Members for your support, we are releasing free and exclusive desktop and mobile screen wallpaper images using photographs from the English Heritage and Historic England image libraries.

At Belsay Hall a number of different and beautiful decorative wallpapers once formed the backdrop to the living spaces. Recent surveying and conservation of the wallpapers has helped us understand more about the different designs and methods of production.The wallpaper is also an interesting key to understanding the people of the house, from its 19th-century owners and servants to those who were later stationed there during the Second World War.

Spring Cleaning the Old-Fashioned Way
Historic home cleaning methods can be more effective than modern techniques, English Heritage said today (19 March), as it released a new video of its Victorian Youtube star Avis Crocombe revealing her top tips. The conservation charity has been experimenting with the historic techniques of using milk on flag stone floors and using bread to remove dirt from wallpaper as part of its annual spring clean while Mrs Crocombe shows how similar methods can be used in your own kitchen.
