Visit Castle Acre Priory and look out for the elaborate architectural decoration in the beautiful 12th-century priory church. Plus you can explore the extensive remains of the cloister and monks’ living quarters, including a gigantic, two-storey, 24-seater toilet block (yes, really!).
The priory’s west range is virtually complete. Its flint-chequered porch and prior’s lodging make a picturesque group with the church’s west front. The prior’s lodging includes a ceiling painted with Tudor roses, and an interactive display focusing on the building of Norman churches.
Don’t miss the chance to explore the recreated herb garden. There’s also an audio tour featuring a 15th-century chant from a Castle Acre songbook, a family trail, and a shop.
