Sir Thomas Hungerford began the fortified mansion now called Farleigh Hungerford Castle in the 1370s. His son Walter, the greatest of the Hungerfords and a distinguished soldier and statesman, extended it in the 15th century.
You can still see two tall corner towers of their fashionably 'quadrangular' castle. There's also a complete castle chapel, with impressive family monuments and wall paintings. In the crypt, you'll find many Hungerford lead coffins, some with death masks.
Discover the story of the family and their castle through an audio tour and extensive displays in the Priests' House. There are book boxes for kids and other family activities too.
