SUITABLE FORChildren
Let your imagination run wild as we construct an amazing adventure playground at Stonehenge with Woodland Tribe. Hammers, saws and nails will be handed over to the children and their adults to build the play structure of their dreams. What will you create?
Playhenge is suitable for ages 4+. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum of one accompanying adult per three children).
Due to the nature of the activity, this event may be noisy. Ear defenders will be available to borrow.
Please note that this experience is first come first served, and due to capacity, queues may form. Time within the experience will be restricted, but you are welcome to come back and have multiple build attempts throughout the day. Playhenge is included in the price of a Stonehenge ticket.
What people said last year:
“Amazing. One of the best activities our children have ever done.”
“Wonderful project. Amazing. 10/10”
“I feel happy when I come here. I get to build lots of stuff.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What's all this about then?
It’s called Playhenge, a workshop for families to do playbuilding with wood and real tools.
What's the connection to Stonehenge?
The children take inspiration from Stonehenge and build their own version.
How long does it take?
The experience is first come first served and due to capacity queues may form. Time within the experience will be restricted, but you are welcome to come back and have multiple build attempts throughout the day.
Do children need an adult?
Yes, every child needs an adult. Max 3 children per adult, minimum 1 adult per child
Can younger children come in too?
Yes, but it is the parents’ responsibility to look after them
Are the structures safe?
Yes, staff are checking them all the time. But these ARE structures built by children. We are all risk assessing them all the time
Are the structures staying permanently?
No, they will be taken down at the end
My child is disabled can they take part too?
Yes, we can always make necessary adjustments for any child
Isn't this a bit risky for children?
We believe acceptable risk is good for children, it is part of the development process
Why is it important for children to build?
Children have always liked building. Lego, meccano, sandcastles. Adventure playgrounds have been around for over 70 years all over the world and part of that continuum.
Why don't the children wear gloves and goggles?
We find gloves and goggles just get in the way, children can't control the tools as well
Do you have a lot of injuries?
No because children are very careful and very good at making their own risk assessment based on a knowledge of their own capabilities
Where does the wood come from?
Slabwood is a byproduct of sawmills. We use a saw mill in Cirencester
What happens to the wood afterwards?
We are donating it to adventure playgrounds and community projects and using it at other events this summer.
Do children hit their fingers a lot?
Surprisingly not - but when it does happen a kiss better from the parents usually works and they very rarely do it again
What do you do with splinters?
We advise parents on how to remove them as we are not allowed ourselves.
Can I take photos?
You can take photos for personal and non commercial use.
